I recommend taking line five to the Gwanghwamun station and departing from exit three for a breathtaking view of Gwanghwamun Square. Continue to walk straight and you will come into a head on collision with Gyeongbokgung Palace. I believe a few hours is sufficient to explore this Palace. This Palace was first built during the Joseon Dynasty in the 14th century and it has endured invasions, fires, and an almost complete demolition by the Japanese in the 20th century. There are several buildings to explore and these are only a few snapshots of where you can explore. The main gate is in Gwanghwamun. However, the Heungnyemun Gate is located right by the Blue House and the president’s mansion. These areas are all located well within waking distance of each other. Additionally, the areas of Samcheong-dong and Insadong can be reached via a short walk. This area can result in a very productive day and a great way to get a sampling of Korean Culture, history, and life.
